Our Mission

The North Providence Public Schools Special Education Department is committed to providing high-quality, individualized educational programs that honor the unique strengths and needs of every student with disabilities. Our philosophy centers on three core principles:
Inclusion and Belonging: We believe all students, regardless of ability, deserve to learn alongside their peers in the least restrictive environment possible. Inclusion is not simply a placement but a mindset that celebrates diversity, fosters understanding, and creates classrooms where every child is valued as an essential member of the school community.
Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): We recognize that effective special education requires thoughtful, data-driven planning tailored to each student. Through collaborative IEP development, our team of educators, specialists, and families design meaningful goals, appropriate accommodations, and specialized services that empower students to reach their full academic, social, and emotional potential.
Legal Rights and Advocacy: We are dedicated to upholding the rights guaranteed to students and families under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and related federal and state laws. Every child is entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE), and we work in partnership with families to ensure these entitlements are honored with transparency, respect, and fidelity. We view parents as essential partners in the educational process and actively promote open communication to support informed decision-making.
Through these principles, the North Providence Special Education Department strives to create an equitable, supportive, and empowering educational experience for all students with disabilities.
